About Us

The Catania vineyard is located in the Curico Valley, 190kms south of Santiago and 50kms distant to the Andes Mountain, 80kms to the Pacific Ocean.

The origin of Curico Valley, as a wine producing region since 1851; it has a Mediterranean climate, warm, with dry summers and temperatures that reach 32℃; during the same season there is thermal amplitude of up to 20 degrees between day and night, a very necessary difference for the optimum ripening of the grape.

The soils are of alluvial origin, average fertility and have a good irrigation system, fed by a broad network of canals that flow from the rivers Mataquito. Teno and Lontue.

The vineyard was founded in 1918 by the Italian Don Aniceto Verdi. When Mr. Verdi arrival in Chile from Sicily Island, Italy. Same as many other European immigrants, he had originally been searching for gold treasures and he did very well. Since then, his main aim was to cultivate the rich Chilean land and he chose the Curico Valley because of its excellent soil, climate and water. The legacy and seeds sowed by Don Aniceto all those years ago have led the successive generations to develop and establish a first class winery, making high quality wines with innovative styles and grape varieties. These noble grape varieties were imported from France and Germany before the phylloxera epidemic in Europe.

In the late 1990s an extensive investment program in new plantings, winemaking, bottling and storage capacity was begun. It also included a search for new and better winegrowing land, which allowed the winery to expand its production, winemaking and sales capacity.

Currently, the Verdi family has a 650 hectares of vineyard and a 10 million liter wine
